Juli Fernández, new President of the ICF Supervisory Board

The Secretary General of the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Economy and Finance Department, Juli Fernández Iruela, has been appointed President of the Supervisory Board of the Catalan Institute of Finance (ICF), equivalent to the Board of Directors of a company, at a meeting of the entity's governing body held on Wednesday, October 2.

Previously, Juli Fernández was appointed by the Government of Catalonia as a proprietary vocal member of the ICF Governing Board on September 27.

Along with his appointment, the Catalan government also appointed Eva Giménez Corrons, secretary general of the Presidency Department; Francesc Trillas Jané, Secretary of Economic Affairs and European Funds, and Jaume Baró Torres, Secretary of Enterprise and Competitiveness of the Enterprise and Labour Department.

Fernández will chair the entity's Supervisory Board, which will also be made up of the CEO, Vanessa Servera i Planas; the other three proprietary members appointed by the Government and six independent members: Rafael Abella Martín, Joan B. Casas Onteniente, José Luís Peydró, Xavier Puig Pla, Pilar Bofarull and Carme Hortalà.

In total, the Supervisory Board is made up of ten members, with a majority of independents, as provided for in the legislation that regulates public credit institutions and applies to the ICF.

 

Juli Fernández Iruela's career

Born in Pozo Alcón (Jaén) in 1962.

He holds a degree in Business Studies from the University of Barcelona; he has a degree in Law, Business Administration and Management, and in Economics from the Abad Oliva University and a senior technician in occupational risk prevention and auditor. Professionally, he has worked as a specialist in the field of tax and business economics, managing partner of the firm Serconfis Asesoría de Empresas and financial consultant and advisor.

As for his institutional career, always guided by the will of public service, in 1992 Fernández joined the Palafrugell City Council as a councilor. He has been mayor during the terms 2011-2015, 2015-2017 and 2023-2024. Likewise, from 2012 to 2015 he was a deputy in the Parliament of Catalonia and, previously, from 2008 to 2011, a deputy in Congress, where he was deputy spokesman for the Economy of the Socialist Group.
