Estabanell signs €22M loan with Triodos Bank and ICF to boost 62.8 MWp of new photovoltaic generation mainly in Catalonia

The financing, structured as Project Finance, will enable the deployment of 16 proprietary solar parks and strengthens the robustness of the company’s distributed generation model.

Estabanell, a leading company in the energy and telecommunications sectors headquartered in Granollers, has signed a financing agreement with Triodos Bank and the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) for a total amount of €22 million, intended for the implementation of 62.8 MWp of new photovoltaic capacity, primarily in Catalonia.

The operation is structured as Project Finance, highlighting the technical, economic, and environmental quality of Estabanell’s projects. It is organized as a syndicated loan with a total debt of €22 million, of which Triodos Bank contributes €15 million and ICF €7 million. Triodos acts as the syndication agent, while the ICF financing is provided through the ICF Ecoverda loan—a public development banking line in Catalonia supporting investments in renewable energy, circular economy, energy efficiency, self-consumption, and sustainable mobility.

This agreement represents a significant boost for the group’s growth strategy, enabling progress in the construction of photovoltaic parks under Estabanell’s preferred distributed generation model.

The financed assets correspond to photovoltaic generation facilities and align with the group’s objective to deploy new renewable capacity with a direct impact on the territory. On one hand, this new capacity will allow Estabanell to strengthen a strategic pillar of the company—renewable energy generation—by promoting a cleaner, more sustainable energy system and advancing economic decarbonization. On the other hand, it will help improve energy costs for its customer portfolio.

These new renewable generation facilities—most of which will be developed in collaboration with the group’s engineering subsidiary specialized in photovoltaic generation, Estabanell Innover—are expected to be operational by June 30, 2027.

Currently, Estabanell is the Catalonia-based company with the largest number of renewable projects in the region. In this context, the company is finalizing the construction and grid connection of three solar parks in Vidreres, La Garriga, and Figuerola del Camp, forming part of the same strategic growth axis in renewable generation.

Teresa Roig, CEO of Estabanell, emphasizes that “this financing agreement marks a turning point in our capacity to generate our own renewable energy and allows us to advance toward a more sustainable energy model, rooted in the territory and aimed at ensuring clean and competitive energy supply for our customers.”

According to Roig, “the trust of Triodos Bank and ICF reinforces the solidity of our model and the rigor with which we approach every project.”

Miguel Ángel Amores, Head of Renewable Energy and Environmental Technologies at Triodos Bank, notes that “this financing demonstrates how banks can continue supporting the energy transition and reduce dependence on fossil fuels through robust structures that combine diversification, stable revenues via long-term PPAs, and the full backing of an experienced energy company like Estabanell. Moreover, this project is an excellent example of support for the real and local economy, where the savings of our clients—many of them Catalan—are transformed into renewable generation plants in Catalonia with strong environmental integration, promoted by a local energy company with solid regional presence and the additional financial backing of the Institut Català de Finances.”

Vanessa Servera Planas, CEO of ICF, states that “sustainability is one of the strategic pillars of public development banking, and ambitious projects like Estabanell’s contribute to driving the energy transition for businesses and society as a whole, fostering a more sustainable future.”

The solar parks scheduled to become operational throughout 2027 include those in Fonollosa, El Catllar, Manlleu, Moià, as well as other facilities outside Catalonia, which are part of the group’s global renewable development plan.

With this agreement, Estabanell consolidates its role as a key player in the energy transition in Catalonia, aligning business growth, sustainability, and positive territorial impact.
