The Government of Catalonia, Fira 2000, BBVA, Banc Sabadell, CaixaBank, Banco Santander and the Institut Català de Finances (ICF) have formalized this morning a syndicated loan for an amount of up to 220 million euros. The operation, which has the guarantee of the Catalan administration, will allow, on the one hand, to finance the first phase of the remodelling works of the Montjuïc spaces (up to 125 million euros); and, on the other, to have the 95 million euros needed to complete the construction project of Hall Zero at the Gran Via venue.

The loan, which has been previously approved by all the institutional partners of the Fira 2000 company (Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Council, L'Hospitalet City Council, Barcelona Provincial Council and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area), will have a maximum interest rate adjusted to the principle of financial prudence set by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Business of the Spanish Government. The repayment period will be twenty years, including four years of grace period.

An investment of 615 million euros

This operation is included in the latest collaboration agreement signed by the Government of Catalonia and the rest of the Fira 2000 shareholders, in force during the period 2026-2029. The document, which sets out the financial contributions and the investment schedule for all partners, has been drawn up based on the financial plan designed to cover the construction project of the expansion of Fira de Barcelona at the Gran Via venue and the first phase of renewal of the Montjuïc exhibition spaces.

The project amounts to a total planned investment of 615 million euros. Specifically, the construction of Hall Zero at Gran Via will represent an investment of 365 million euros. And the first phase of the remodelling of Montjuïc, 250 million. This includes the rehabilitation works of the Alfons XIII pavilion and the construction of a new multipurpose pavilion, which must be completed in time for the centenary celebration of the 1929 International Exhibition.
