The public promotion bank grants the Seva City Council an ICF Equipaments Socials loan that will enable the complete refurbishment of a historic building to provide 24 residential places and 24 day center places. Construction of the new facility began at the end of February, and it is expected to be operational by 2028.
The ICF has financed the Seva City Council with €3.5 million to build the municipality's first nursing home for the elderly and day center, which will also serve other towns in the Osona region.
The center will have a capacity of 24 assisted living places and 24 day center places to promote healthy living habits, enhance active aging, and prevent unwanted loneliness.
Seva and the Osona region, like the rest of the country, are experiencing growth in the population over 65 years of age, resulting in sustained demographic aging and increased pressure on elderly care services that must be addressed.
The project will rehabilitate the historic buildings on Dalt Street, in the Illa de Can Manyosa, which had already been used as a residence for the elderly. The ground floor will house the day care center, while the upper floors will be used for the residential area, organized into two living units of 12 people each.
“From ICF, we are very happy to participate in this project by providing funding to build the first nursing home in Seva and thus contribute to the modernization of the social equipment network in Catalunya. We need projects and investments so that social services can tackle challenges like aging, both present and future,” explains the CEO of ICF, Vanessa Servera.
For his part, Seva’s Mayor, Pol Barnils, states that “finally, we are moving forward with a key project for Seva that will improve the quality of life and services for the elderly and their families. Despite the technical complexity that has extended the timeline, the ICF funding has been resolved quickly and easily. We also thank the Departament de Drets Socials i Inclusió of the Generalitat and the Diputació de Barcelona for their warm reception and support in this project.”
The total cost of the project is €4.8 million. The public promotion bank financing from Catalunya consists of a €3.5 million loan from the ICF Equipaments Socials line, of which €1.5 million benefits from an interest rate subsidy from the Departament de Drets Socials i Inclusió of the Generalitat. The remaining funding to cover the total cost of the future facility will be covered by the municipality’s budget.
The works are expected to be completed and the facility to open in 2028.
€50M in subsidized loans to promote social facilities in Catalunya
In line with the goal of expanding and modernizing the social equipment network in Catalunya, the Departament de Drets Socials i Inclusió and the ICF announced last year €50 million in subsidized loans to finance projects for the acquisition, construction, and rehabilitation of social equipment across Catalunya, such as nursing homes, day centers, and assisted living housing.
The aim of the so-called ICF Equipaments Socials loans is to ensure dignified, accessible, and high-quality care for the elderly and other vulnerable groups, such as people with disabilities, children, youth, and migrant populations.
