The centre will have a capacity for 54 beds and will offer a wide range of services for elderly people in L'Alta Segarra. The public promotion bank has granted Calaf Town Council a loan of €1.4 million and an advance of €1.3 million from a Next Generation EU grant.

The ICF has financed Calaf Town Council with €2.7 million to build the first geriatric care home in Calaf, which will serve the entire Alta Segarra. The centre will have a capacity for 54 beds and will offer a comprehensive range of services for elderly people in the region, as it will also operate as a day centre and community dining facility to promote healthy lifestyles, encourage active ageing and prevent unwanted loneliness.
In addition, the new care home will include a service platform for both residents and external users, offering services to promote personal autonomy, with activities, talks, and workshops aimed at maintaining the physical and cognitive abilities of elderly people, as well as home help services and information and guidance for users and their families.
The total cost of the project is €4.4 million. The financing from the public promotion bank of Catalonia has consisted of a €1.4 million loan and a €1.3 million advance from a Next Generation EU grant.
The centre will follow a person-centred care (PCC) model to respond in a personalised way to the different needs that elderly people, with varying degrees of dependency, may have throughout their life cycle.
Construction work, which began in the summer of 2024 and involves an extension of the Casa Joan Gimferrer Day Centre into an adjacent and independent building, is expected to be completed by the end of 2025. The care home will have a ground floor and two upper floors, with capacity for 54 beds distributed across four living units with both double and single rooms.
€50M in subsidised loans to boost social facilities in Catalonia
In line with the goal of expanding and modernising the network of social facilities in Catalonia, the Departament de Drets Socials i Inclusió and the ICF announced last July the activation of €50 million in subsidised loans to finance projects for the acquisition, construction, and renovation of social facilities across Catalonia, such as care homes, day centres, and assisted living housing.
The aim of these so-called ICF Equipaments Socials loans is to ensure dignified, accessible, and high-quality care for elderly people and other vulnerable groups such as those with dependency and disabilities, children, young people, and migrant populations.
