The competitiveness improvement for the company, which employs around eighty people, will also have an impact on the Baix Ebre region, where it is one of the leading businesses. ICF Eurocrèdit loans such as the one received by Nomen offer advantageous conditions for Catalan SMEs thanks to co-financing from the European Union.
The Institut Català de Finances (ICF) has provided Nomen Foods with an ICF Eurocrèdit loan of half a million euros to drive the automation and robotisation of its main production plant in Deltebre. Nomen Foods is one of the leading companies in the Baix Ebre region in the rice sector, providing indirect employment to more than 600 producers and direct employment to around 85 people.
The loan is intended to increase the capacity of the production plant by improving process automation, with investment in new packaging machines, end-of-line conveying systems, probes, dosing units, and product transport systems.
Specifically, this investment will enable Nomen Foods to increase its production capacity in the packaging and end-of-line operations by between 15% and 20%. The company plans a total investment of over one million euros, half of which corresponds to ICF financing.
The CEO of the ICF, Vanessa Servera i Planas, states that "the agri-food industry has always been one of the areas where the public development bank has been able to generate impact and drive business growth. Nomen has been an ICF client for some time and is a company that brings together and sustains an ecosystem characteristic of the Terres de l'Ebre region, connecting farming activity and innovating in and commercialising a staple product such as rice."
For his part, Joan Tomàs, Finance Director at Nomen, explains that "the agri-food industry operates in a highly competitive environment where investment and innovation in new processes that allow us to be more efficient and competitive is vital for growth. It is at this point that we wish to highlight the need for the support of financial institutions such as the ICF, which from a financing perspective bring viability to our projects."
The remainder of the overall investment by Nomen Foods is supported by a direct grant from the Nuclear Transition Fund, awarded under the most recent call for applications.
The ICF Eurocrèdit loan received by Nomen is part of a facility that offers advantageous conditions for Catalan SMEs looking to drive investment, open new markets, and develop innovative projects, thanks to co-financing from the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
